New Single: The World
On The World
Cover art by Dawn Altier and Colleen Rollins
This new song is old.
I wrote The World years ago, long before I had the tools to finish it. Back then it was stitched together from melody and memory, over music a few friends of mine had written. I never got their permission to release it, so I started from scratch. Reharmonized the melody. Rebuilt the foundation. Same bones, new soul.
I was trying to write something that felt ancestral. A chant, maybe. A ritual that reminded me: you didn’t ask to be born, but here you are. And this place has already made room for you, just by the roll of the dice. It asks things of you. Some things are beautiful. Some are unbearable.
Most of us weren’t born into a world that reflects who we are. And even if you were, the task of becoming yourself under the weight of expectation… is still a mountain.
There’s a kind of paralysis that creeps in when we mistake the world’s size for its authority. We start to believe that just because something is, it ought to be. But it doesn’t. People before us did what they could with what they had. And now it’s our turn. To shape this thing. To change it. To make it kinder.
That’s what this song is about: self-love as a gateway to collective love. If I am worthy, you are worthy. If I deserve care, you deserve care. If I am full of light and rhythm and breath and purpose—then so are you.
The World comes out soon. I hope it finds a place in you.
With affection,
Rev
