The Anthem I Needed

When I wrote the lyrics to Unapologetically Me, I didn’t know I was giving myself something I’d been missing.

I felt alone. Not the romantic, artistic kind of alone, but the hard kind—the “am I really this different from everyone else?” kind. I’d just moved across the country. I was processing the weight of the world, and I was beginning to notice all the ways I had hidden from myself over the years.

What came out wasn’t a diary entry. It was an anthem. But not the kind you shout from rooftops. More the kind you whisper into a mirror until you believe it.

I want to share the full lyrics with you here. They carry pieces of my story, yes—but maybe they carry yours too.

The single drops June 20. Until then, thank you for listening, for reflecting, and for walking this road with me.

Full Lyrics:

"Chorus:

I’m gonna do what I’m gonna do

Be what I’m gonna be

Be un-a-pologetically me

V1:

I think if life is discovering

That the greatest discovery

Is discovering me

Sometimes my mind is a mystery

Inscrutable it seems

Most of all to me

In my life I’ve seen a million things

See people stare at me (figured)

I’m imagining things

Pre-Chorus:

Turns out if you believe in love

It can feel like a lonely island of one

But I think if you’re like me

Then good luck with stopping us cause

Chorus

I turned five and I realized

Big people hate it when you live life

Like every sunrise

is a new chance

To dan sunder a new sky

Laugh so hard we cry"

An already-opened envelope with lyrics scribbled in pen on it.

Here it is, excavated for your pleasure: the first time I wrote any lyrics to “unapologetically me”.

A photo of artwork that ultimately became the art for "unapologetically me". The picture is taken outside in the sun and is held down by two paperweights.
